November 29 - December 5:

Despite my best laid plans, almost nothing got watched around the Lounge this week, as we prepped for both a party AND making a film. Next week will be better, since Zach is coming up Saturday for the express purpose of lounging around and watching stuff. I can't wait!

November 22 - November 28:

Desk Set (1957)
Katharine Hepburn, Spencer Tracy
Ah, the days when you could get loaded at the office Christmas party (and when you could call it a Christmas party) without being called into the personnel director's office, put on probation and sent to rehab! I don't see this on most lists of holiday favorites, which is too bad, because it has some hilarious, booze-soaked party sequences.

Christmas Vacation (1989)
Chevy Chase, Beverly D'Angelo
It's the 20th anniversary of this modern classic and we celebrated by finally picking up the DVD (our ancient VHS copy was worn from years of heavy usage)! We've watched it once so far. There will be many more viewings of this baby in the next month!

November 15 - November 21:

Besides The Smoking Gun Presents World's Dumbest Criminals 17, we managed to find time for an episode of Hawaii Five-O and a mind-blowing episode of The Captain and Tennille, their 1976-77 variety show, whose guest stars ran the gamut from Vincent Price to Heart.

November 8 - November 14:

Do Not Disturb (1965)
Doris Day, Rod Taylor
A tediously-paced formula Doris Day comedy, which is saved by a vintage drunk scene from Ms. Day and shots of swinging mid-'60s London and parties with the "international set," twisting and frug-ing while dressed to the nines (very reminiscent of the "Rich Man's Frug" in Sweet Charity). I love these movies in spite of themselves. She's always too old for her roles and her husbands always treat her like an idiot. Somehow it all works because she's Doris Day.

October 25 - November 7:

As predicted, we didn't watch anything but part of an episode of Mad Men while on vacation, but we did finish She Gods of Shark Reef before we left. The bad guy Darwinized himself and the good guy ended up with the girl, who he rescued from the evil, prison matron-esque old crow who wanted to sacrifice her to the shark god by throwing her to hungry sharks, so all's well that ends well (finally).

October 18 - October 24:

Well, we've at least STARTED She Gods of Shark Reef and so far it's everything you would hope for from a title like that. It features costumes by Shaheen of Honolulu, which we love. In the Halloween spirit(s), we've also been watching spooky episodes of Get Smart and Kolchak: The Night Stalker (but those are all spooky).

October 11 - October 17:

This week was completely irritating, viewing-wise. She-Gods of Shark Reef didn't happen because we ended up leaving town a day earlier than planned to beat SNOW, which has no business falling in mid-October, in my humble opinion. We did get to see Police Woman and Kolchak the Night Stalker, so it wasn't a complete waste. I'm just cranky because I am NOT, NOT, NOT ready for winter!

October 4 - October 10:

This was a very hard week in a lot of ways, so it was all about comfort food, programming-wise. We watched copious amounts of The Smoking Gun Presents World's Dumbest (this week they featured dumb drivers--always a crowd pleaser), That Girl and Police Woman.
