Follow that Dream (1962)

Part of the Elvis DVD box set I got for my birthday, this goofy comedy involves a family of hillbillies whose car runs out of gas on a Florida beachfront, so they decide to homestead there. Naturally this doesn't sit well with a lot of people and they run afoul of both gangsters and uptight bureaucrats before they find success with a fishing business and a judge rules that they can have custody of the unwanted children they'd unofficially adopted some time before. The gangsters run a gambling joint in a shiny 1960s travel trailer, which was a bonus for me!
August 24 - August 30:
Dr. Strangelove (1964)
Peter Sellers, Sterling Hayden, Slim Pickens, George C. Scott
This film is tied with The Producers for Paul's favorite movie, so it was one of his birthday presents. It never gets less hilarious, but I've decided that, as funny as Slim Pickens and George C. Scott are in it, Sterling Hayden, as Brigadier General Jack D. Ripper, is my favorite character. Sterling Hayden, it turns out, was a pretty interesting guy: by turns he worked for the Office of Strategic Services (the precursor to the CIA), was a decorated war hero AND became a Communist!
