May 25 - May 31:

We shot one of our infamous short films this week (coming to this site soon), but haven't managed to watch anything besides an episode of Honey West and selected scenes from Tootsie, in honor of Sydney Pollack, the entire week. Pretty sad. Hopefully we'll do better next week!

May 18 - May 24:

The Ghost in the Invisible Bikini (1966)
Tommy Kirk, Deborah Walley
We finally had time to sit down and watch a movie together this week and we finally got to see this one, which we've been wanting to watch ever since Zach gave me a great poster from it for my birthday. The really hilarious part to me is the fact that the poster has very little to do with the actual film, which features Boris Karloff as a dead guy who has to do a good deed to get to heaven, Basil Rathbone and Jessie White as the baddies and is otherwise "Beach Party in a Haunted House," which is actually its alternate title. Best of all, it features Nancy Sinatra in a small part!

Grease (1978)
Olivia Newton-John, John Travolta
I'm happy to say this video, which ended up costing us less than $1 at the library bookstore, played just great in our machine! I love Grease--I've been in the show and have a long history with it. I further decided upon this viewing that the "Hand Jive" dance sequence should be ranked among, if not the all-time greatest film dance sequences, at least near that top level. Not only is the dancing great, but you see a number of the characters undergo through changes as it progresses. Great stuff!

May 11 - May 17:

Frank Sinatra: A Man and his Music (1966)
Frank Sinatra, Nancy Sinatra
A friend who also loves Nancy Sinatra called to tell us this was on TCM and I was incredibly depressed that I'd missed the beginning, but, happily, it was on again later that night and we were able to tape it for posterity. Frank brilliantly sings standards like "Fly Me to the Moon" and "Moonlight in Vermont," but I was also enthralled by Nancy's solo section and her duet with "Daddy," where they did a medley of "Downtown" and "These Boots are Made for Walkin." Pure mid-sixties variety show bliss.

May 4 - May 10:

We were too busy making movies this week to actually watch any, but we did manage to catch an episode of CHiPs, the second season of which is about to come out on DVD (VERY exciting!), and two episodes of Hawaii Five-O, one featuring Ricardo Montalban as a crime lord and the other guest starring Gavin McLeod as a drug dealer.
