November 25 - December 1:

We were way too busy to watch anything but two episodes of The Odd Couple and holiday episodes of Liberace and Ozzie and Harriet this week, but we have big holiday movie plans for this coming week!

November 18 - November 24:

Unconditional Love (2002)
Kathy Bates, Rupert Everett
I loved this goofy tale of a woman who comes into her own after her husband leaves her and she travels to England for the funeral of her favorite singer, getting caught up in zany mayhem along the way.

Christmas Vacation (1989)
Chevy Chase, Beverly D'Angelo
A perennial Lounge holiday favorite and kickoff of the season. It just gets better every year.

November 4 - November 17:

A lot of HGTV, Boomerang and Food Network, both on JetBlue and in our hotel room in Scottsdale, Arizona, with random bits of Saturday Night Fever and Office Space thrown in for variety.

October 28 - November 3:

The Giant Gila Monster (1959)
Don Sullivan, Lisa Simone
A perennial Lounge favorite and one we have to watch every year around Halloween. There isn't much that needs to be explained here: a giant gila monster terrorizes a small town and our hunky hero, auto mechanic and would be rock star, Chase Winstead, saves the day because everyone else in town is too dimwitted to do much.

The Killer Shrews (1959)
James Best, Ingrid Goude
More stupid people, this time on an isolated island, who have to be saved from the enormous shrews THEY created through their faulty science by the rugged leading man. I can't decide whether the message in this film is that scientists are useless in a crisis or that alcohol is the solution to all of life's problems.

October 21 - October 27:

Venus (2006)
Peter O'Toole, Leslie Phillips, Jodie Whittaker
If Lawrence of Arabia and My Favorite Year haven't already proved to you that Peter O'Toole is the man, this film will do it. It's an unexpectedly hilarious tale of a very old actor who falls in love with an obnoxious, low class teenager. It has its sad moments, but even those are infused with hilarity and I think Paul and I startled the other passengers as we watched this on the train, as we both burst into uncontrolled laughter at the art school scene.

For Your Consideration (2006)
Catherine O'Hara, Harry Shearer
Zany mayhem befalls a group of actors in a low budget film when Oscar buzz starts surrounding them. A hilarious, yet frightening, look at awards show fever.

October 14 - October 20:

Legally Blonde (2001)
Reese Witherspoon, Luke Wilson
This is one of those films that would go under the "guilty pleasures" category if I felt guilt about these things. I love the 'success is the best revenge' aspect of it, as well as the fact that the heroine is so positive. See my "Philosophical Ramblings" to get an idea of why I really wanted to watch this film this week!

October 7 - October 13:

Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House (1948)
Cary Grant, Myrna Loy
I know, the Lounge Theater shows this one a lot! It's one of my favorites--so much so that our taped-off-the-TV VHS copy is wearing out. I've loved this film since I first saw it in high school. It becomes even more riotous when you actually own a house, particularly one that needs a lot of work!
