March 30 - April 6:

No movies this week, due to an overwhelming schedule that left room for little more than our Monday night lineup on American Life TV (The Mary Tyler Moore Show, WKRP in Cincinnati and The Bob Newhart Show) and two episodes of Honey West.

March 24 - March 29:

Legally Blonde (2001)
Reese Witherspoon, Luke Wilson
I watch this film often and have written it up here before, so I won't go into the plot or anything. It was a comedy emergency this week and we needed films guaranteed to make us laugh, which this one always does.

Vegas Vacation (1997)
Chevy Chase, Beverly D'Angelo
See above regarding the comedy emergency at the Lounge this week.

Shadow of the Thin Man (1941)
William Powell, Myrna Loy
We put this on because we were looking for a specific scene, then later remembered it was in another "Thin Man" film. No matter--any of these films is great to watch at any time! This is the one involving a dead jockey and a crooked gambling syndicate.

March 16 - March 23:

Men in Black (1997)
Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones
I predicted the only watching we'd do last week was on JetBlue and I was right. Due to traffic at JFK we managed to see half of this movie before we even took off. Believe it or not, we'd never seen it before, but we enjoyed it quite a bit. Will Smith's character is recruited away from the NYPD to join an elite force that protects the earth from unfriendly aliens. Lots of fun, particularly the climax at the site of the 1960s World's Fair in Queens, and it kept me from wondering why the hell it was taking so long to take off.

March 9 - March 15:

A Very Brady Sequel (1996)
Gary Cole, Shelley Long
I'd forgotten just how hilarious this film is. To say I grew up on The Brady Bunch is an understatement. It's part of my DNA. So you'd think that a film that skewers it would bother me, but it's done so well and with such conviction that you can't help but crack up. Even better, the actors become their Brady charcters. It's eerie. Gary Cole (Mike Brady) and the gal who played Jan had me laughing until I cried.

March 2 - March 8:

Tootsie (1982)
Dustin Hoffman, Jessica Lange, Teri Garr
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I've seen this movie about 50 times, but I needed something familiar to watch while I was beading and there was NOTHING on any of the hundreds of cable channels we pay to not watch. I can recite this gem along with the actors, a la Rocky Horror. I have many favorite parts, but my favorite line at the moment (it changes daily) is delivered with great gravity by hack actor John Van Horn, who explains how the character of the violinist on the soap opera fell through some ice: "He was playing during the thaw." Maybe you need to see the film for the full effect.
