Continuing in the Ma and Pa Kettle vein, in this one Pa wins a free trip to New York City, so he and Ma take off, unknowingly leaving their fifteen children in the care of a bank robber and carrying $10,000 said robber plants on Pa. Zany mayhem ensues.

Green Acres meets Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House and Sitting Pretty in this post-war "fish out of water" tale of city slickers who buy a farm, featuring Ma and Pa Kettle.
April 12 - April 18:
Girls! Girls! Girls! (1962)
Elvis Presley, Stella Stevens
Well, at least we got to one film this week! Part of the Elvis in Hawaii trilogy (and the only one I have yet to pick up on DVD, dammit), Ross Carpenter (Elvis) runs a fishing and pleasure boating operation, including at least one boat that he built with his father, for the elderly couple who bought the boats and took him in after his father died. He can't afford to buy the West Wind (the sailboat), but the couple needs to sell quickly. Enter Laurel (played by Laurel Goodwin, whose career seems to have spanned less than ten years), the rich girl who buys the boat for proud, "won't take charity" Ross. There's the usual angst, along with the angst of his jilted ex, played by Stella Stevens. The screenplay was never going to win any Oscars, but it's Elvis and it's in Hawaii (including scenes in a nautical bar)! What's not to like?
April 5 - April 11:
This was a workaholic week even by Velveteen Sweatshop standards. We were lucky to fit in episodes of Mary Tyler Moore, Hawaii Five-O and The Smoking Gun's World's Dumbest. However, Zach stayed over Saturday night and we were pleased to be able to blow his mind with two episodes of The Brady Bunch Variety Hour, one of the shows that undoubtedly directly led to the demise of variety TV.
