Naturally I neglected to take a picture of the dish that really excited me this week, so here is a gratuitous shot of happy hour in the Velvetiki Room:

I really didn't want to go to the supermarket on Thursday, but felt this weird pressure to do something "Mexican" for Cinco de Mayo, so I decided to create a pasta sauce using ingredients I had on hand, which turned out to be tequila, grapefruit juice, parmesan cheese, cream, onion, garlic, pepper flakes, salt and pepper and probably some other stuff that I'm forgetting now. It was yummy, but the amazing part was that it tasted EXACTLY like this noodle dish my great-grandmother used to make, which I'm pretty sure used NONE of the same ingredients as mine, short of maybe onion and salt. Hers was tomato-based, and I'm 100% certain she never owned a bottle of tequila in her life, but the similarity was uncanny. Weird, but fun!
