When you love summer and warm weather like I do, people tend to defend fall in mournful tones, telling you how much they love the beauty of it and the cool, crisp weather. Well, I love fall, too! I HATE that it brings us that much closer to the misery that is winter in the northeast, but that's not fall's fault. One thing I love about fall is fall food. Here's my first "fall meal" of the year, butternut squash soup and beer bread:

It was cool and cloudy on Saturday, which put me in the mood to cook. I got a hankering for beer bread, so I went online and found a recipe, to which I added garlic and pepper, and which came out great! I had a recipe in one of my magazines for butternut squash soup, so I used that as my jumping off point. I added garlic, a jalapeno pepper and black pepper to the called for squash, onion and carrot. It's really yummy and I plan to have more today! We washed it all down with Sam Adams Octoberfest beer. What's not to like about fall?
