I made my well-known sweet-and-sour chicken for a working party the other night and I'm pleased to say it was a hit. I also made a couple of new recipes, including a dip from the Hawaii Kai Cookbook, which features oyster sauce and which I served with two different kinds of rice crackers, and this sweet potato "salad," featuring everyone's favorite salad additive, bacon!

Happily, there wasn't much left at the end of the night. We finished off the leftovers with a couple of steaks from the grill. I just love the way anything served cold was considered a salad back in the day. If all salads featured bacon, macadamia nuts and sweet potatoes, I'll bet a lot more people would eat them willingly!
