This dish is appropriately named, as it is a crowning achievement in kitsch food, Frankfurter Crown!



I wanted to create some really kitschy food props the other day, so this one was a natural. I'd seen pictures of it in several vintage sources and the time finally came to give it a whirl. It actually tastes really good! All that's in this one is mashed potatoes, onions, green beans, crumbled bacon, and of course the hot dog "crown." The original recipe, being a mid-century relic, called for no spices whatsoever, but I added salt, pepper, cayenne pepper and garlic. It's a wiener! Uh, I mean winner!
