What a difference a couple of weeks makes! Three weeks ago we were snowed in. Friday, on the other hand, it was warm enough to have happy hour in the Velvetiki Room for the first time this year!

We went to Summit Bar, in NYC, a few nights ago, where I had a drink called "Ground into Glass," which was a yummy, spicy sort of margarita variation. We knew better than to try to duplicate it at home, since they used all sorts of artisanal ingredients, but it inspired us to try a spicy margarita, which Paul achieved with the help of some habanero sauce. Naturally that called for "Mexican" appetizers. I made a ground turkey mixture with black beans, peppers, onions and spices, which I put on tortilla chips that I'd spread with mashed avocado with lime juice and salt. I also sliced a red pepper, which I put under the broiler for two minutes with salt, cayenne pepper and cheese. It was easy and festive--perfect for spring!
